Frequently Asked Questions
A. Apply on-line or call in directly to the GRETB Training Centre in Mervue. Refer to the course profiles on this website. If you are registered and/or in receipt of a payment from the Department of Social Protection (DSP) you will also need to contact your local DSP/Intreo Office to register for the course. Please ensure that you have the course details with you when you go to the DSP Office.
Q. What is the cost for a course?
A. There is no charge for full-time courses to people who are unemployed. Evening courses are free to certain categories of DSP Clients - Please discuss your eligibility with your DSP/Intreo Office.
Q. What are the entry requirements for a course?
A. Course entry requirements vary from course to course depending on the type of course and level of certification on offer. The individual course profiles list the entry requirements for each course. Refer to the course profiles on this website. When you register for a course you will be called for an Information Session where you can get full details about the course and a chance to speak with the Courses Providers and to GRETB Staff.
Q. How will I know if I have got a place on the course?
A. Our Course Recruitment Office will contact you a few weeks before the start date and you will be invited for an Information Session about the course. Some courses may have a brief test to assess skill levels and there may be an interview. Check on the Selection Criteria tab to see further details.
Q. Will I get an allowance while I am on the course?
A. A training allowance will be paid in accordance with whatever your DSP entitlement is if you are attending a full-time day course. Payment is based on attendance at the course. For full-time day courses you may receive a contribution towards travel costs if you live 5kms or more from the training location.
Q. What are the hours of a full-time course?
A.The GRETB Training Centre based course hours are: 8.30 am to 3.45pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to12:45pm on Friday.
Q. Do I get holidays?
A. While in training learners are not entitled to holidays. You will be entitled to Bank/Public holidays.
